The 1997 drama Love Generation, featuring Kimura Takuya, has recently become available on Netflix, and here are my thoughts on the first three episodes.

It seems like Kimura Takuya might have some kind of partnership with Netflix because, since the end of 2024, his dramas have been consistently appearing on the platform. Whether it's "Good Luck!!", "Beautiful Life", or the more recent "Kyojo", international viewers have plenty of "Kimu-Taku" projects to explore.

The newest addition is "Love Generation", which also stars Matsu Takako and Uchino Seiyō. The plot revolves around the complex romance between two young office workers, Katagiri Teppei and Uesugi Riko, who initially clash but gradually grow closer to each other.

Teppei, portrayed by Kimura Takuya, is a skilled yet conceited advertising designer. Due to his defiant nature and unwillingness to conform, he is abruptly moved from the creative department to a sales position—a role he despises. This shift compels him to mature, transform his persona, and adjust to a more structured work environment.

In his new position, he encounters Riko, an energetic and independent woman who initially has a distaste for him because of his arrogant demeanor. Their relationship starts with disagreements and misunderstandings, but eventually, they form a deep emotional connection.

Love Generation is very much your typical J-drama romance story with breakups, high school crushes, and comedic moments sprinkled across the story. People like me who love everything Japan, will adore the 90's setting, especially seeing footage of 1990s Tokyo, the style, the fashion, and the vibe is emaculate to watch.

I've really enjoyed the show so far, particularly the interaction between Teppei and Riko, which is definitely the highlight. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked Matsu Takako's portrayal of Riko. Her performance is incredibly charming and entertaining, and it often enhances the dynamic between the pair.
